On 26 February 2023, 90 SAC troops reportedly raided Kan Taw village. It is claimed that the SAC troops killed five PDF members. Their bodies were found on 27 February 2023 with their heads and other body parts severed. The five killed allegedly included three individuals taken hostage from Kan Taw. Myanmar Now reported that the other two individuals killed were the two PDF youths captured in Nyaung Pin Kan.
