On 2 March 2023, Mandalay Free Press reported that 15 people from Tar Taing were used as human shields by SAC troops who had raided the village. In total, it is alleged that 17 villagers were killed, with at least one man having been beheaded. Myanmar Now reported that other bodies showed signs of torture, including rape. Myanmar Witness has been unable to verify these latter claims.
