Two Myanmar military personnel were reportedly killed when the People’s Defense Forces attacked two military ships on the Chindwin River in Kani Township on 25 September 2023. Myanmar military troops allegedly responded by attacking villages along the riverbank near the shipwrecks with heavy weapons. A woman from Mu Htaw (East) village was injured, and the Ngar Hpyet village monastery was also damaged.
